DINGLASAN /GMA News July 31, 2013 A stranded melon-headed whale, also called an electra dolphin, was rescued Tuesday morning near a fishing community in General Santos City, the Earth Island Institute Philippines revealed. The female adult dolphin, which weighed about 50 kilograms and was 2.5 meters in length, appeared to be in good health, with no apparent physical trauma. The animal was subsequently released about 20 minutes after its rescue. “Mga 5:00 a.m. naitawag sa amin na may melon-headed whale malapit sa dalampasigan… Wala naman wound o sugat kaya posibleng nadisorient lang ang dolphin kaya nahiwalay ito sa pamilya nito,” Carlito Flores, member of the EIIP and one of the rescuers, told GMA News Online in a phone interview.
