Wildlife keepers told to get permit Mars W. Mosqueda Jr. September 17, 2014 Cebu City — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 has urged all wildlife keepers and owners to apply and acquire a wildlife farm permit (WFP) to legally obtain rights to possess wildlife species for exhibition and educational purposes. A wildlife farm permit is a permit issued to a wildlife keeper giving him the right to develop, operate, and maintain a wildlife breeding farm for conservation, trade or scientific purposes, said DENR 7 Regional Executive Director Dr. Isabelo Montejo. A wildlife farm permit comes in two classifications: one can apply for a small-scale farm with a capitalization amounting to P1.5 million and below; and for a large-scale farm with a capital outlay of above P1.5 million. In a report released by the Protected Areas, Wildlife Conservation Zone and Management Services (PAWCZMS) as of August 31, there are about seven permits issued in 2014. Of the seven, five are in Cebu, and two in Negros Oriental. WFP is a five-year permit issued to qualified individuals or corporations to develop, operate, and maintain a wildlife breeding farm for conservation, trade or scientific purposes. Montejo also warned anew of the exportation and importation of wildlife, its by-products and derivatives from illegal sources. He said exportation and importation of wildlife shall only be allowed upon prior issuance of an export or import permit by the DENR following the completion of necessary requirements in Manila.
